The timpani tonal range is within the bass clef

The tonal range of timpani notes written on a score is the same as that of the piano. In the case of a four-timpani set, however, the tonal range is generally from around D (on the second space below the bass clef staff) to G (on the fourth space of the bass clef staff). Although there are some pieces that feature timpani notes that go even lower, the notes are generally written using the bass clef staff.
