THE DRUM CHALLENGE: "SHE'S GOT THE GROOVE"

In countries such as Mexico, women have been suffering from human rights issues such as discrimination. With the strong aim to empower such women in the music industry, Yamaha de México initiated a project named "She's Got the Groove." They provide various opportunities for women to express themselves through their musical performances. The initiative began with a focus on drummers, but is now expanding to keyboardists, guitarists, and other musicians in Mexico. Yamaha de México is committed to contribute to the diversity in musical culture and encourage all individuals to share their passion through their music.

Yamaha de México partnered with the organization "Now Girls Rule" to bring together girls in a musical workshop. The participants, aged 7 to 17 years old, worked in teams to compose their original song under the guidance of professional musicians. They were even able to creatively design the cover of their singles. The workshop allowed participants to learn the fundamentals of music, meet inspiring role models, and build friendship with others.

ARTISTS' VOICES

"She's Got the Groove" could not have made the influence it has so far without the support of the participating artists. Yamaha de México worked together with inspirational artists who sympathized with the vision of "She's Got the Groove." They shared their passion about being a part of the journey.

"I BELIEVE THAT WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE."

I have been fortunate enough to be a part of this amazing project since the beginning. I think it is important to encourage young girls to leave all preconceived notions about this instrument as being only for boys. I believe that, with Yamaha's support we will be able to make a difference and show women that it is possible to have a career in music. I am excited to get to know other female drummers that maybe, without these kinds of incentives, would not share their gifts with the rest of the world, regardless of their proficiency on the instrument. My hope is that with this project we will be able to finally bridge the gap between the whole “male vs. female drummers” by showing people, especially in Latin America, that it is not a matter of gender, but it is only a matter of music. And at the same time, empower girls to do the work required to be proficient in this incredible instrument.

Being part of this contest's jury is an honor, as it gives me the opportunity to appreciate the musical beauty and creativity that women can contribute through ensembles. I am excited to be part of a contest that values musical quality as a culture, that provides spaces and opportunities for women, and that contributes to respect and equality. As a professional musician, I consider it my responsibility to support other talented artists. I also wish to contribute my own vision to celebrate and promote musical culture and diversity. Through the contest, I will be investing in the future of music and will work to ensure that women's contributions to the world of music are recognized and appreciated.

"IT'S NOT ABOUT GENDER, IT'S ALL ABOUT MUSIC."

It is very important that the doors open to women to an instrument that for years has been stereotyped for men. I love this project because it inspires us to share our performance with the entire world and it is not about who is better or who is the winner. It is to share our passion for the instrument and for the music. Remember, it's not about gender, it's all about music.
