Global LovePiano

What is the Global LovePiano?

We want people the world over to feel closer to the piano, and to enjoy playing it, which is why Yamaha is installing specially painted "LovePiano" street pianos.

We are placing LovePianos at stations, airports, and in commercial facilities where anyone can play them freely and be heard by large numbers of people, providing a space where people can find healing and connection through chance encounters with music. In Japan, for example, LovePianos have been installed at more than 140 locations throughout the country since 2017, and in 2022 we began taking the LovePiano initiative to more countries and regions overseas, starting with Asia.

At Yamaha, we hope that the LovePiano will inspire more people to begin playing musical instruments, or to rediscover their playing. We are committed to promoting social and cultural development, with the goal of creating a spiritually rich society.

Our activities

Japan

Since we started in 2017, we have placed the LovePiano® in more than 140 locations throughout Japan, including stations, airports, and shopping malls. Piano YouTubers and other customers have posted videos of LovePiano performances on social media, helping this initiative to gain wider recognition. Many people come to play these LovePianos and to listen to others playing them, helping to revitalize local communities and promote culture.

China

In order to provide as many people as possible with the opportunity to casually engage with pianos, we host time-limited events in public spaces like shopping malls.
Beyond the chance to play uniquely painted pianos, we also offer tote bags featuring coloring book-style images of pianos and give participants the opportunity to experience a SILENT Piano. In 2023, we organized these events in cities such as Nanchang, Nantong, and Guangzhou, drawing an attendance of over 2,000 people, including many families.

Singapore

In Singapore, where the piano is immensely popular, street pianos can be found in many stations and malls.
For two months starting in December 2023, a piano depicting "Wonderland" by artist Jaxton Su, themed around creation and discovery through music was placed in a shopping mall. It drew the attention of many shoppers, who paused to enjoy impromptu performances. Yamaha Music Schools also used this piano to stage concerts with their students.

Thailand

A LovePiano painted by the popular artist Pomme Chan and themed around the concept of "Playful and Colorful" was created in 2024.
The painting shows a field of daisies stretching away beneath a bright, endless sky. The daisies seem to dance to the melody created by the pianist, transforming the scene into a stage for an enchanting musical journey.
The piano was placed in Thailand's largest shopping center, Siam Paragon, and is scheduled to travel to several other locations in the country.
"Spread the joy" is a social media campaign that was held to invite piano lovers to showcase their talent and share their performances on social media. During this month-long contest, 35 people posted videos and photos of their performances on social media. These videos have been viewed more than 7,200 times.
To offer a glimpse into the world of LovePianos, exclusive behind-the-scenes footage of the production process has been released, including an interview with the artist that showcases the inspirations, creativity, and passion that they have used to bring this LovePiano to life.
Prior to the installation of the LovePiano, a social media campaign was held that invited people to guess which artist had painted and designed this instrument. This campaign attracted more than 700 participants.
The LovePiano was installed at the Bangkok Art & Culture Center for a second exhibition held over a one month period starting in April 2024.

Taiwan

In 2024, two LovePianos were created with the hope that "everyone can play the piano freely and easily, whether solo or in an ensemble", teamed up with AhdiaOne (阿迪啊萬), a famous Taiwanese graphic artist. One is called "Wild World", which combines West Coast New School style with contemporary wild style, while adding softness with pink and purple colors. The other is called "Age of Tronic,'' which gives off a futuristic and lively impression with its cyberpunk-style use of vibrant colors. Both pianos express that musical creativity is limitless.
The first exhibition with “Wild World” is held from April 12, 2024 to July 10, 2024 at Taoyuan Airport Terminal 2 Departure Lobby C. More installations are planned in different cities in Taiwan to continue the Global LovePiano project in 2024.
