In 1961, with development of FRP-based skis on track, Yamaha personnel settled on bathtubs as a flagship product that would generate orders year-round rather than the more seasonal skis and boats.
A different FRP material was developed that possessed greater resistance to heat than that used in skis and boats, and in 1964, Yamaha commercialized this in its "Yamaha Baths."
An independent sales and service network was put together from the ground up, which proved to be of great utility in later years with the home products (in the lifestyle products business) that followed.
