Yamaha-contracted professional golfer Scott Simpson used this club when he won the 1987 U.S. Open. Its sharp profile and the soft feel of its forged soft-iron construction were highly praised. Later, Yamaha-contracted PGA Tour money leader Hal Sutton used a signature version of the model, which was released as the SX-25 Hal Sutton model.
