Yamaha Digital Saxophone YDS-122

In 2020, Yamaha introduced its first digital saxophone under the concept of “a saxophone that would allow anyone to experience the joy of performing, anytime, anywhere,” successfully combining the authentic expressive power of an acoustic saxophone with exceptional quietness. In 2023, an entry-level model was added to the lineup, and it has since been widely embraced by many as an entirely new type of wind instrument.

The new YDS-152 and YDS-122 digital saxophones inherit the key features of their predecessors ― allowing users to enjoy playing the saxophone regardless of time or place, and offering the same smooth playability with an acoustic saxophone key layout ― while introducing new tones and an upgraded connection terminal. By accommodating a broader range of musical genres and pursuing greater usability, these new models further expand the possibilities of musical expression.

“The YDS series was created to bring the unique joy of expressing yourself through the saxophone to more people, freeing them from the constraints of time and place,” said Jin Sakamoto, senior general manager of B&O Division. “With the new YDS-152 and YDS-122, we have further expanded their range of expression by adding new tones, while also enhancing usability to suit modern playing environments, such as through the adoption of a USB Type-C port. We will continue to combine digital technology with our expertise in instrument crafting to expand the joy of playing and the possibilities of new musical expression.”

Key Features

1. A rich variety of tones for performances across a wide range of musical genres

Sixteen new tones have been added, including orchestral instruments such as the violin, flute and timpani. In addition to the existing 73 saxophone and synthesizer tones, the instruments now feature a total of 89 tones, allowing users to enjoy playing across a diverse range of musical genres.

2. Upgraded connection terminals for improved usability

The previous USB Type-B port has been replaced with a USB Type-C port. This enhances connectivity with smart devices and PCs, enabling smoother integration with the dedicated app and MIDI connections.
