Yamaha Unveils New Electric Guitar Developed in Collaboration With Matteo Mancuso:

Matteo Mancuso Signature REVSTAR RS20MM

Hamamatsu, Japan ― Yamaha Corporation announces the launch of the Matteo Mancuso Signature REVSTAR RS20MM electric guitar.

Since its debut in 2015, the REVSTAR series has drawn on café racer motorcycles, Japanese artisanship and cultural heritage to shape its distinctive identity. Building on that foundation, Yamaha launched the second generation of REVSTAR in 2022.

Among the artists most closely associated with the REVSTAR series is internationally acclaimed guitarist Matteo Mancuso, known for his remarkable fingerstyle technique and exceptional technical ability. A REVSTAR player since the early stages of his career, Mancuso has made the series an integral part of his musical voice and currently plays a custom REVSTAR made at Yamaha’s custom shop in the U.S.

The RS20MM was developed in close collaboration with Mancuso, incorporating his preferences down to the finest detail to achieve the responsiveness and expressive range he seeks in an instrument. It features DiMarzio PAF 36th Anniversary pickups, which capture subtle variation in the player’s touch while delivering rich sustain. A 5-position pickup selector and Focus Switch also provide a broad tonal palette. Yamaha’s exclusive chambered body and a carbon-reinforced neck contribute to the instrument’s rich resonance and excellent balance. A flame maple top in Vintage Sunburst finish, paired with gold hardware, gives the guitar a striking appearance, while Mancuso’s signature on the truss rod cover and a dedicated logo inlay adorns the 12th fret.

The RS20MM responds naturally to variations in the the player’s touch, from delicate fingerpicking to more aggressive playing. At the heart of the instrument are DiMarzio PAF 36th Anniversary pickups, modeled on vintage PAF specifications. Their design minimizes interference with string vibration, delivering enhanced sustain and excellent response across a wide range of playing dynamics. Additionally, the locking tuners provide exceptional tuning stability and reliability.

The tone knob features Yamaha’s proprietary Focus Switch, which alters the guitar’s tonal character. Engaging the switch reduces the treble while boosting the mid and low frequencies, delivering a fuller, more assertive tone. Together, the Focus Switch and 5-position pickup selector provide outstanding sonic flexibility. In positions two and four, an exclusive circuit introduces a subtle phase shift between the two pickups, creating a unique in-between tone without sacrificing volume.

The RS20MM features key visual elements from the custom REVSTAR Matteo has used for years. The combination of a flame maple top in Vintage Sunburst finish and gold hardware creates an elegant, visually compelling aesthetic. Mancuso’s signature is featured on the truss rod cover, while a dedicated logo inlay at tthe 12th fret further distinguishes the RS20MM as a signature model.
