Yamaha Launches New High-End Acoustic Guitars for Singer-Songwriters: FG7 and FS7

HAMAMATSU, Japan ― Yamaha Corporation announces the release of its FG7 and FS7 high-end acoustic guitars, as well as the FG7 X and FS7 X acoustic-electric guitars. Designed specifically for singer-songwriters, the new models combine powerful, expressive sound with refined Japanese-inspired craftsmanship, while the acoustic-electric models deliver a natural and authentic amplified tone across a variety of musical applications.

Yamaha began sales of guitars in earnest with the release of its FG150 and FG180 acoustic guitars in 1966, and has since continued to expand its lineup to include everything from entry-level models to high-end models designed for professional musicians. Throughout its long history, the FG lineup of acoustic guitars has continued to exhibit quality improvements and technological innovation, leading to the release of the FG9 flagship model in 2023 and the FS9 in 2024. Since their introduction, these guitars have supported the musical expression of many players across a wide range of performance settings.

The new FG7 and FS7 are high-end models designed for singer-songwriters who use acoustic guitars as accompaniment for their vocals. The combination of Sitka spruce top boards, bracing optimized for these top boards, and a thicker backboard enhances the ability of the body to produce powerful sound, providing expressiveness ideal for singer-songwriters. The models also feature an understated design that keeps the focus on the player onstage, with subtle touches of Japanese aesthetics incorporated throughout.

In addition, the FG7 X and FS7 X acoustic-electric guitars, based on the FG7 and FS7, will be released simultaneously. These models employ the Atmosfeel™ 3-way pickup system, which reproduces the sound components of the guitar that cannot be picked up by conventional pickups. By allowing the true sounds of the FG7 and FS7 to be output directly, even on stage, these models open up new possibilities for musical expression.

The FG7 and FS7 feature Sitka spruce top boards, delivering an excellent balance of power and clarity. The top-board bracing inherits the design philosophy of the flagship FG9 and FS9 while incorporating a shape and configuration optimized for these models. The backboard is thicker, increasing its reflective properties to enhance the ability of the body to produce powerful sound. Together, these features enable a wide range of musical expression sought by singer-songwriters.

The FG7 features a dreadnought-style design well suited to powerful strokes, and the FS7 features a more compact, concert-style body that produces clear, well-defined sound. Both models are available with different tonewoods for the sides and back. The FG7 R and FS7 R use Indian rosewood for the sides and back to produce beautifully resonant overtones with deep lows and crisp highs. The FG7 M and FS7 M use African mahogany for sound with mid-focused warm tones, producing a light and crisp sound. With four distinctive sound profiles created by different combinations of body shape and tonewood, players can choose the model that best suits their playing style and preferences.

To ensure that the player is the star of the performance, the models feature an understated design that, when observed up-close, still offers a sense of high-end model refinement, down to the finest detail. The sound hole rosette features a shimenawa rope-shaped design that has deep roots in Japanese culture, while the label seen through the sound hole is made from Japanese washi paper. The unique fingerboard inlays resemble traditional Japanese kumiki woodworking, resulting in a design from a Japanese manufacturer that is rich with embellishments rooted in Japanese culture.

The FG7 X and FS7 X acoustic-electric guitars, based on the FG7 and FS7, feature the Atmosfeel^* 3-way pickup system. This system reproduces the sound components of a guitar with natural nuances that cannot be picked up by conventional pickups. The piezo sensor under the saddle captures the vibration of the strings, the microphone mounted inside the body captures the airiness of the body, and the contact sensor pickup made of thin, durable piezoelectric synthetic paper attached to the back side of the top board collects the high frequencies from the vibration of the top board. The combination of these three sounds reproduces the natural acoustic sound of the guitar in its entirety.

In addition, sound creation can be easily accomplished by simply operating the three knobs located on the side of the body. The Master Volume adjusts subtle tonal expression, and the Mic Blend adds a body feel. Moreover, by controlling the character and resonance of the low frequencies with the Bass EQ, you can create a sound that adapts to any usage scenario.

• Atmosfeel is named by combining the words “Atmosphere” and “Feel.” The contact sensor was jointly researched and developed by Yupo Corporation, Kobayasi Institute of Physical Research, and Yamaha Corporation.
