Yamaha Corporation and Trinity College London Partner to Expand Access to Music Education in India
Hamamatsu, Japan ― Yamaha Corporation (hereinafter, Yamaha) has signed a memorandum of understanding with Trinity College London (hereinafter, Trinity), aiming at expanding the music education market in the Republic of India (hereinafter, India).
In India, further growth of the music education market is expected with a growing economy and increasing investment in education. Furthermore, the government’s education policy, National Education Policy 2020, emphasizes “holistic learning” including the arts and music, increasing the importance of music in school curricula.
Since 2017, Yamaha has been promoting music education in India through its School Project, an initiative which introduces music education using musical instruments such as recorders, into public education. By establishing a collaborative framework with Trinity, which holds strong recognition in India’s music education industry, Yamaha will jointly promote initiatives to further expand music education and accelerate market growth in the country, under a shared philosophy of empowering both teachers and students.
“For more than 150 years, Trinity College London has championed the transformative power of music education, not just to develop technical skill, but to nurture confidence, creativity and the wider life skills young people need to thrive,” said Erez Tocker, Trinity College London’s CEO. “I am delighted to announce our collaboration with Yamaha in India, which represents a powerful alignment of purpose and expertise. We share a deep belief in the importance of high-quality, accessible music education and in the central role teachers play in shaping the next generation of musicians. By bringing together Yamaha’s global leadership in music learning with Trinity’s internationally recognized qualifications, we have a meaningful opportunity to widen access to music education, remove barriers to participation and strengthen opportunities for teachers and learners in India.”
“We believe that collaborating with Trinity, a globally respected music examination body, will mark a major turning point for music education in India by creating a framework that continuously enhances the quality of learning and provides diverse learning options,” said Kennei Sakai, general manager of the Sales Company Management Division. “By combining Trinity’s internationally recognized evaluation criteria with Yamaha’s expertise and network cultivated in school education settings, we can expand across India a learning environment where both teachers and students can experience tangible growth. Through the development of music education, we aim to draw out the full potential of children in India while contributing to sustainable market growth and improvements in the nation’s educational environment.”
