In 1966 Yamaha established a guitar research section with the objective of improving popular models and developing high-end ones.
In 1967 the company invited Spanish master craftsman Eduardo Ferrer to create classical guitars based on traditional Spanish manufacturing methods.
The GC-10 is the earliest model of Yamaha classical guitar inspired by these methods. Its design concept based on orthodox Spanish styles had a profound impact on later Japanese guitars.
