The two Yamahas join forces to deliver an unforgettable experience.
YSK-HY01 and YSK-HY02 speakers were developed especially for Yamaha Motor’s WaveRunner personal watercraft. This iteration of WaveRunners features a powerful and dynamic design, requiring the built-in speakers to feel similarly powerful, as if they were always an integral part of the hull. To meet this requirement, we decided on a balance between firm, robust facing and dynamic edges on the housing to complement the hull design and enhance the overall WaveRunner design. Another challenge was shaping the joints differently for each model while maintaining the same visual impact.
We positioned the Yamaha Tuning Fork Mark on the grille so that it subtly captures the eye, hinting at the high quality of Yamaha-quality sound. Surrounding the logo are five spokes connecting to the grille frame and dynamically overlapping sub-spokes forming rhythmic pentagrams. This was intentional—given that the primary market for WaveRunner is North America, we decided to incorporate familiar shapes from North American culture.
Another concept we emphasized during the design process was that of explicitly conveying the dual strengths of the Yamaha brand: mobility and musical instruments. From musical instruments to golf equipment, our products have a common philosophy: the idea that a product does not fulfill its purpose merely by existing, but only when people use it to make music or play sports. The designers of Yamaha Motor’s WaveRunner personal watercraft share this desire to cherish the essential relationship between people and their tools. This philosophy guided our approach to designing these speakers, and we are confident that the design encapsulates the essence of Yamaha above all.
Of course, speakers on a personal watercraft must be loud enough to overcome the sound of the engine, the wind, and the waves crashing against the hull. We hope our YSK-HY01 and YSK-HY02 speakers allow WaveRunner riders to enjoy unprecedented experiences on their watercraft—dynamic rides with the thrill of speed punctuated by music that complements the calming ocean air and scenery.
