trajectory
AXIS Vol.177
The conductor channels their soul into their fingertips, whose trajectory sparks dialogue with entire orchestras and directs the attention of the audience to a single point. In contrast, the motorcyclist becomes one with their motorcycle, whose headlights trace an emotional trajectory through the sky. The trajectory of a performance is imbued with the vision and passion of the performers, rendering indelible images into the souls of the audience.
In 2014, Yamaha Corporation and Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd., held an international graphic design competition with the theme of Kando (a Japanese word for the simultaneous feelings of deep satisfaction and intense excitement that we experience when we encounter something of exceptional value), at which the most outstanding work was the multilayered silhouettes of the trajectories of four beats. The work symbolized the emotional, dynamic rhythm experienced in music as well as motorcycle riding, and brims with a sense of Kando to come. Kando features prominently in the philosophies of both Yamaha Corporation and Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd., spurred by their goal of connecting producers, users, and others around them through Kando. This logo channels that concept, and is used to this day whenever the two companies collaborate.
