Product Overview

TORCH T01 Digital Piano (Japan-exclusive release in February 2025)

This digital piano features striking black keys made from the precious wood material, African Blackwood, that is typically used in wind instruments like clarinets and oboes ― specifically, the portions that are left unused after the careful selection and crafting process.

Yamaha is engaged in an activity called “Otonomori*1” to ensure that precious wood materials can continue to be used in future instrument manufacturing, and the TORCH T01 is a new concept model born from this challenge to pursue more sustainable manufacturing. Centered around the theme of African Blackwood, the piano is crafted to evoke a warm presence and tactile feel, with hand-finished details by artisans ― inviting players to build a lasting connection and continue playing the instrument for years to come.

In consideration of the environment, Yamaha has avoided the use of the commonly-used PVC sheets for the exterior, with it instead featuring a hand-applied natural oil finish that highlights the wood's unique character and texture. Additionally, Yamaha's proprietary laser processing was used to recreate the natural patterns present in African Blackwood bark.
