Drum Sensor Unit DSU50

The newly released EAD50 is a high-spec Electronic Acoustic Drum Module* that expands the concept of the EAD10, and can be used in settings ranging from home to the stage. The new DSU50 Drum Sensor Unit enables higher-quality sound capture. The EAD50 also integrates drum-related equipment such as a mixer, effects, and drum tone generator module into a single unit. Drummers can now customize their sound freely and expand their range of expression. In addition, the EAD50 supports a variety of needs, including live performance, video streaming, home recording, and online lessons. Its simple setup and easy connectivity expand the possibilities in both performance environments and enjoyment.

“The EAD50 is an innovative tool that brings out the creativity of drummers to the fullest,” said Jin Sakamoto, senior general manager of Yamaha B&O Division. “We hope you look forward to Yamaha’s new approach to expanding the enjoyment of drumming, from home to the big stage.”

  • An Electronic Acoustic Drum Module is a Yamaha-original product that enables recording of the entire drum kit by attaching a sensor unit to the bass drum hoop, then adds effects such as reverb before outputting the sound to a PA system or headphones.

Key Features

1. Simple, high-quality drum PA solution

Compared with conventional drum miking that requires many microphones and cables, the EAD50 uses a simple setup in which a sensor unit is attached to the bass drum hoop to capture the entire drum kit in high quality. Because sound checks for each microphone are unnecessary, setup time is significantly reduced. The main unit is equipped with five microphone inputs, ten trigger inputs, a drum tone generator, individual outputs, and USB multichannel output. With a single EAD50, drummers can achieve a streamlined drum PA setup that meets professional standards.

2. Full sound customization by the drummer

Drum sound creation has traditionally relied heavily on the PA side, making it difficult for drummers to finely adjust their own sound. With the EAD50, drummers can control performance effects such as tone changes and effects in real time, allowing them to enjoy more diverse performance expression. By incorporating and connecting electronic drum pads or triggers, drummers can build a hybrid kit combining acoustic and electronic drums, greatly expanding their expressive range.

3. Works with various apps and functions to offer new ways to enjoy drumming

The EAD50 supports various apps and offers a wide range of enjoyment beyond live performance. Drummers can play along with music from smartphones and tablets via Bluetooth, or use audio sources stored on USB memory or SD cards. By using the “EAD Touch” and “Rec’n’Share” apps and connecting a smart device to the instrument, users can practice easily, as well as record, edit, and share their performances. The EAD50 also supports a conversation microphone, improving the quality of online lessons and drum seminars.

4. Drum Sensor Unit that delivers clear and dimensional sound

The DSU50 is a Yamaha-original drum microphone, specially designed to capture the natural sound of an acoustic drum kit. Simply attaching it to the bass drum hoop makes it possible to record the entire drum set in clear, spacious stereo without complex setup. A single DSU50 included with the main unit already provides high-quality sound capture. When a second DSU50 is added, sold separately, users can achieve even clearer and more dimensional sound for recording and live performance. The DSU50 also functions as a high-sensitivity stereo condenser microphone for other instruments such as percussion and piano.
