1.4-MW Solar Power Generation System in Operation at Yamaha Kakegawa Factory

Achieving an Annual CO2 Emissions Reduction of Approximately 600 Tons

Yamaha Corporation announces that large-scale 1.4-MW solar power generation system has been installed at our Kakegawa Factory (Kakegawa, Shizuoka), which mainly produces acoustic pianos, and operation has begun as of November of this year.

This power generation system was installed on the factory roof and in the parking lot. The factory is expected to generate approximately 1,600 MWh of power annually, which is equivalent to approximately 9% of the power used at this factory. Moreover, an annual CO2 emissions reduction of approximately 600 tons is anticipated. The installation of this system uses the on-site PPA model*1 of Cenergy Co.,Ltd (Chubu Electric Power Group).

The medium- to long-term greenhouse gas reduction targets of the Yamaha Group have been certified by international environmental organization SBT Initiative*2, and to achieve these reduction targets, the Group has been actively introducing renewable energy and high-efficiency energy systems, developing energy-saving products, and streamlining logistics. In addition, the "Sustainability Committee" , chaired by the President, and its subordinate organization, the "Working Group for Climate Change", are accelerating company-wide discussions and initiatives on climate change.

The installation of solar power generation system at this factory is a part of these efforts and is in line with our global efforts to achieve carbon neutrality. Yamaha Corporation will continue to actively promote measures to address climate change Group-wide, including at our overseas branches.

  • *1: PPA stands for Power Purchase Agreement. This entails the installation of a renewable power generation system as an asset of a power generation company and the conclusion of a purchase and sale agreement for the power generated.
  • *2: SBT stands for Science Based Targets. An initiative to encourage the setting of science-based greenhouse gas reduction targets to achieve the Paris Agreement targets, and to evaluate and approve those targets. It was jointly established in 2015 by four international NGO for environmental information disclosure: CDP, UN Global Compact, World Resources Institute (WRI), and World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).
