Now, as the internet continues to grow, what values will we be able to provide?
Creating the future of music
1995
The birth of network devices
Leveraging our LSI development know-how, in 1995 Yamaha developed the RT100i remote router, in a step from the electronics domain to the internet.
1996
Transmitting music over the internet
In 1996, Yamaha developed the MIDPLUG, which allowed playback of music over the internet—which was still in its infancy. In an era of slow communications speeds, this technology allowed the transmission of text and images as well as music.
1999
The growth of ringtones and music-related services
Beginning with the start of mail services featuring music and images in 1999, Yamaha led the field in deploying services such as the distribution of music scores, cellular phone ring tones, and music-focused community websites.
2003
The arrival of VOCALOID™
In 2003 Yamaha developed the VOCALOID voice synthesis technology and software. Most companies released "vocal libraries" based on the voices of actual singers, allowing many people to create vocals on their own computers with ease. They shared the songs they created on video sharing sites, creating a new genre of music.
