Building on the knowledge provided by research into piano frame casting, Yamaha embarked on full-fledged research into metals. We conducted research and development into a range of materials utilized to forge brass instruments, and to make snow ski edges and beryllium speaker cones.

Starting with iron-aluminum alloys in 1961, Yamaha began external sales of metals such as copper alloys, sendust, and titanium, establishing itself as one of the big three special metal makers in Japan.
