We used musical instrument crafting techniques to make furniture

Applying the craftsman’s art to furniture

1903

Creating luxury furniture for the interiors of well-known buildings

Yamaha began production of luxury furniture in 1903 utilizing the woodworking techniques acquired through crafting musical instruments. The company’s skills gained recognition, and in 1931 Yamaha was entrusted with crafting the interior of Japan's House of Lords (now the House of Councillors).

1959

Using FRP in sports and lifestyle products

Yamaha imported the fiber reinforced plastic (FRP) used in archery products in the USA and began basic research. We released the first domestically produced archery bow in 1959, and diversified into snow skis, then badminton and tennis racquets. From there we began making boats, swimming pools, and bath tubs.

1921

Production of wooden and metal propellers

In 1921 Yamaha began production of wooden aircraft propellers in response to a request from the Japanese government, later followed by steel propellers.
