The AG01 is a microphone that was made specifically for live streaming. This product features an integrated microphone, audio interface and mixer, which makes it easy to optimize sound quality and greatly reduces the time required to adjust the sound. You don’t have to be a pro musician or sound engineer to quickly set up an environment for streaming audio—simply connect this product to your smart device or computer. Our aim for the design of this product was to create a friendly impression, expressing how easy and conveniently the microphone can be used by anyone.
The initial idea for the design of this product was an oval shape, such as an egg that a child might draw. After all, the shapes that children imagine include design elements that can be accepted by everyone. Although this product houses a variety of functionality in a single package, we knew that a design that expresses too much information might be off-putting to users who are new to streaming their content. For this reason, we designed this product to convey a sense of simplicity in terms of functionality and operations. The ring around the middle of the microphone both matches and enhances the elegance of any interior space, which expresses our hopes that the AG01 will be used in a casual way as part of your everyday creative routine.
The thing that’s always so important to me is creating designs that amplify the user’s feeling of satisfaction as they begin using the product. The buttons on the AG01 clearly reflect this ideal. The sliding switches to be located on the rear side of the product give the users easy controlling, even though they cannot see. The height of the mic stand strongly influences how easy it is to operate the mic with your fingers while holding it. From this perspective of usability, we’ve given the mic body and stand a well-balanced design. While designers always create products with an overall image in mind, the result does not always end up exactly as expected. Often, the design that we choose for a specific part leads us to an answer for our next problem. With the AG01, we became clear on the direction for the design once we decided on the height for the stand.
I feel that when users touch the AG01 and understand that it was designed to be easy to operate, this will deepen their attachment to the product, and the realization that Yamaha has thought this far ahead will bring them a sense of joy. We want to keep bringing products to the market that are designed in this way—products that help build a relationship of trust with our users.
