Yamaha Participates for the First Time in the 21st International Exhibition of the Triennale di Milano

Yamaha Corporation will participate in the 21st Century Triennale di Milano (hereinafter Milan Triennale), an international design exhibition, which will be held in and around Milan, Italy, this year, from April 2 through September 12 (local dates).

Yamaha's Design Laboratory participated as an exhibitor in a wide range of international design events to deliver the attractiveness of contemporary musical instruments and audio visual equipment widely. Previously, Yamaha participated in the Milano Salone exhibitions for a period of four consecutive years, beginning in 2005, and in the Biennale International Design Saínt-Etienne exhibition in France for two years, beginning in 2014.

The title of Yamaha's exhibit this time will be "& JOY." The aim of the exhibition will be to trace the lineage and legacy of Yamaha's "Lineage of Challenge," which, over the changing years, has provided universal value.

Along with the development of human civilization, people's lifestyles have evolved. However, the essence of culture and values that bring affluence to people's hearts and minds do not seem to change over time. Yamaha, in its exhibition this time, will seek to highlight the basic and universal values that people have sought after. To do this, we will show various products, including three kinds of violins, as the symbol of the evolution of musical instruments to explore the concept of "JOY."

  • Acoustic Violin
This contemporary acoustic violin, while applying the same shape and design as in 17th century violins, was crafted with the latest techniques.
  • Silent Violin™
An instrument that applies a seemingly contradictory technology for muting sound that was invented in the 20th century
  • Electric Violin
Having made its debut in the 21st century, this electric violin, created for exclusive use on the stage, introduces a new style of playing.

The Milan Triennale will be held this year for the first time in 20 years. This will be an artistic exhibition officially recognized by BIE (the Biennale International Art Exhibition secretariat) and will cover design, fashion, architecture, and other areas. The exhibits will be presented primarily in the Triennale Art Museum and the Museo della Permanente. Since the Milan Triennale will be presented in parallel with the Milano Salone 2016 (April 12 to April 17), this will be the world's largest international design festival, with more than 300,000 people expected to attend.
The theme of Milano Triennale 2016 will be "21st Century. Design after Design", and design creators and organizations of each country will exhibit under the subtheme of what important roles design must play in the 21st century.
