Summit Recording Artist Timothy Hudson is a member of Carolina Brass and is a Trumpet Artist/Faculty member at Gardner-Webb University. As a performer, Mr. Hudson has appeared as a guest trumpeter and as a member of professional orchestras in the U.S. and abroad under renowned conductors including Lorin Maazel, Yoel Levi, Leonard Slatkin, Grant Llewellyn, James DePreist, Timothy Myers, Mariss Jansons, Gunther Schuller and Enrique Batiz. In addition to his busy Carolina Brass schedule, Mr. Hudson enjoys regular engagements with the North Carolina Symphony, and playing Principal Trumpet with the Opera Company of North Carolina. He performed and recorded a PBS Special with the Canadian Brass, Canterbury Brass and Star of Indiana. Mr. Hudson has also recorded for Summit Records, Academy Sound and Vision, Ltd. (London), OSEM (Mexico), Mode Records (NY), Mark Records (NY), Mellencamp and Associates Group of the Navarre Corp. (IN), and IBA (Israel) labels. As an artist/educator, he has performed throughout the US, Mexico, England, New Zealand, the Far East and Israel. He has been a winner of chamber music competitions at Fischoff (IN), Coleman (CA), and the NY Brass Conference Quintet Competition. His interest in new music has led to dozens of world premiere performances and recordings of compositions by such noted composers as Arthur Frackenpohl, Jack Gale, Bill Holcombe, Gwyneth Walker, Mark Scearce, David P. Jones, and Terry Mizesko.
As an educator, Mr. Hudson began his college teaching career at the age of 25 as the Instructor of Trumpet at the Crane School of Music, SUNY Potsdam. He received "The 1991-1992 Most Outstanding Faculty Member" award for the State University of New York at Potsdam. He was Associate Instructor of Trumpet at Indiana University, and has held trumpet teaching positions at The University of Tennessee Knoxville, Tunghai University in Taichung Taiwan, UNC School of the Arts, UNC-Chapel Hill, High Point University, and also taught at the Conservatory of Music of the State of Mexico. For nine summers, he was on the music faculty at the New England Music Camp in Maine. Mr. Hudson has given numerous master classes and solo recitals at many of the nation's leading universities. He regularly publishes articles, arranges and transcribes music, is a Record Reviewer for the International Trumpet Guild Journal, and an adjudicator for the National Trumpet Competition. His former students hold positions in major orchestras, such as the LA Philharmonic, play on Broadway, have been members of the Glenn Miller Orchestra, and teach on the university level as well as K-12.
Mr. Hudson is the founding member and Director of the Carolina Brass. Under his direction, Carolina Brass has become a national touring ensemble and a Summit Recording Artist, with compact disc recordings distributed internationally on the Summit Record label. In addition, Mr. Hudson maintains a very active performance schedule playing an average of 250 engagements each year. These include performances with Carolina Brass, the NC Symphony and the Opera Company of NC. For the past 20 years, he has been backing up pop/jazz artists such as Ray Charles, The Temptations, Manhattan Transfer, Neil Sedaka, Tony Bennett, Branford Marsalis, Mannheim Steamroller, Kenny Rogers, Mike Cross, Bobby Vinton, The Moody Blues, Chuck Mangione and Dizzy Gillespie.
