Yamaha Bassist Phil Lipscomb Tears It Up on Taproot's New Blue-Sky Research

NASHVILLE, TN (Sept. 26, 2005) — Taproot and Yamaha bassist Phil Lipscomb have a new album out, Blue Sky Research, on Velvet Hammer Music/Atlantic Records. It is the band's third release with Atlantic and a follow up to 2002's critically acclaimed Welcome.

On tour and in the studio Lipscomb uses the Yamaha TRB5PII, a five-string neck-thru bass with active electronics, and the Yamaha RBX375, which offers a modern cutting-edge look with sleek cuts and black hardware.

Blue-Sky Research took almost two years to make and the hard working band wrote more than 80 potential songs for the album. Taproot's work ethic paid off with a bold and sound-stretching but cohesive album. Produced by Toby Wright, Blue-Sky Research features three songs co-written by Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins fame and a guest appearance by Stephen Carpenter of the Deftones.

Taproot, which also features Steve Richards on vocals, Mike DeWolf on guitar and Jarrod Montague on drums, is currently on a U.S. tour in support of the album through the end of October.
