John Bryant

John Bryant's Biography

Dr. John Bryant is a native of Asheville, NC. He began his study of the trumpet at age 10 and has since studied with Kieg Garvin, Mark Clodfelter, John Rommel, Michael Tunnell and James Ackley. John holds a Bachelor of Music from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, a Master of Music from the University of Louisville and Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of South Carolina. In 2002, John made his Carnegie Hall solo debut at the age of 18. Since then, he has soloed with such groups as the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, Georgia Brass Band, Pan-Harmonia Chamber Music, Keowee Chamber Players, Smokey Mountain Brass Band, Blue Ridge Civic Orchestra, Central Kentucky Concert Band and others.

John has performed extensively in more than 30 states as well as abroad in Europe and Asia. In 2008, John won the Naumann Trumpets Award for Artistry and received first place at the National Trumpet Competition in the Reiche Baroque Solo Division. His performance positions include second trumpet with the Savannah Philharmonic Orchestra, second trumpet in The Atlanta Pops Orchestra and third trumpet in Augusta Symphony. In addition to being a well-known member of Atlanta’s freelance music scene, John serves on faculty at Reinhardt University, teaches a private studio of students and is a member of the International Trumpet Guild.
