Dennis Nulty's Biography

Dennis J. Nulty was invited by Music Director Leonard Slatkin to join the Detroit Symphony Orchestra in 2009, and completed a recording Concerto for Tuba and Orchestra, by John Williams, with the DSO in 2014. Passionate about teaching the next generation of tubists, Dennis has served as adjunct professor of tuba at the Oberlin Conservatory since 2014.

A native of Upstate New York, Dennis received a Bachelor of Music degree and Performer's Certificate from the Eastman School of Music followed by his master's diploma from the New England Conservatory of Music in 2009, just prior to joining the DSO. Between his undergraduate and graduate studies, Dennis was a fellow with the New World Symphony in Miami, Florida.

Since joining the DSO, Dennis has performed with orchestras across the United States, presented recitals and master classes at many conservatories and universities, and has been a featured artist at the International Tuba Euphonium Association conferences. Dennis was involved with the two seasons of the National Brass Symposium - a collection of the America's foremost principal orchestral brass musicians giving classes and performing concerts. Dennis has also coached the talented students of the National Youth Orchestra in preparation for a China tour.
