Ben Hausman's Biography

Ben Hausman (they/he) is a percussionist and composer based in the Maryland area. As both an active composer and performer, Ben works closely with electronics, heavily involving themselves with electroacoustic music, using both live electronic and fixed media. Constantly "plugged in," Ben is always finding the next distorted sound found through sampling obscure sounds.

Outside of solo work, Ben is a part of Matchstick Percussion, a Maryland-based percussion quartet set to ignite creativity, celebrate inclusivity, and transform percussion repertoire. With Matchstick, Ben has had the chance to perform alongside renowned ensembles such as the 21st Century Consort, So Percussion, and Sandbox Percussion. Further with Matchstick, Ben has been a part of feature length works including John Luther Adams’ Earth and the Great Weather and the world premiere of Michael Gordon’s Field of Vision alongside members of the So Percussion Summer Institute and the University of Michigan percussion studio.

Having studied with Gene Koshinski, Tim Broscious, Michelle Humphreys, Frank Russo, Jon Seligman, and Will Redman, Ben holds a Master of Music from University of Delaware and a Bachelor of Music in Percussion Performance from Towson University. Outside of music Ben enjoys story-telling, filmmaking, table-top board games, and chasing around their cat, Mystic.
