David Stanoch's Biography

David Stanoch is an in-demand and versatile drumset artist and educator with over thirty years of experience of performing worldwide with a truly eclectic array of artists. The list includes such jazz greats as Doc Severinsen, Richard Davis, Herb Ellis, Jack McDuff, Stanley Jordan and Ben Sidran; pop, rock and R & B artists, Sheryl Crow, George Clinton, Freedy Johnston, Bonnie Raitt, Butch Vig, New Kids on the Block and the Supremes' Mary Wilson; classical ensembles the Minnesota Orchestra and Empire Brass; and Broadway, television and motion picture stars including Regis Philbin, Robert Goulet, Shirley Jones, Martin Short and Don Rickles.

A dedicated educator, Stanoch has studied with Max Roach, Alan Dawson, Elliot Fine, Jeff Hamilton and Chad Wackerman and believes strongly in the guidance and inspiration a good teacher can provide. He has been on the faculty of McNally Smith College of Music, in St. Paul, MN, since 1990 and is a contributing author to Modern Drummer Magazine, the Vic Firth Educational Artist Program, the Hudson Music Teacher Integration Program, and also hosts a "Chef's Corner" giving professional tips and advice at DrummerCafe.com. A sought-after clinician he regularly presents masterclasses at events internationally, including the Percussive Arts Society International Convention and the KoSA Winnipeg DrumTalk Festival in 2010.

As an author, his drumset method book, Mastering the Tables of Time, Vol. I, was released to instant critical acclaim in 2008, including a PAS review proclaiming, "This book should become one of the perennial methods for drumset along with... Ted Reed's Syncopation, Jim Chapin's Advanced Techniques for the Modern Drummer, and Gary Chester's The New Breed." The book was voted "Winner: #1 Educational Book" in the Modern Drummer 2009 Readers Poll and is distributed worldwide by Alfred Music Publishing.
