Pianists from around the world converged in Fairbanks in May 2018 to compete in the prestigious 2018 Alaska International Piano-e-Competition for more than $65,000 in cash and prizes. From an initial round of 24 contestants, the top three finalists vied for the grand prize; however, over the 10-day competition, there were many other outstanding performances as well.

As a 7-year-old, Vasyl Kotys of Ukraine entered the Zolochiv Music School, then at S. Krushelnytska Music Special School in Lviv, Ukraine. Vasyl has competed and won prizes in many piano competitions. He has been awarded several awards including 1st Prize in the Citta di San Dona di Piave International Piano Competition (2016), 1st Prize Nuova Coppa Pianisti (2016), 2nd Prize International Baltic Piano Competition (2016), 1st Prize in the La Palma D’Oro Concorso Pianistico Internazionale (2017), and most recently 1st Prize at Verona International Piano Competition (2017).

He has performed with many orchestras including the Bremer Philharmoniker, Phoenix Symphony Orchestra, National Odessa Philharmonic, Symphonic Orchestra of the National Philharmonic of Ukraine, Norddeutschen Philharmonie, Polish Chamber Philharmonic Sopot, and Theater Vorpommern Philhamoniesches Orchester under conductors such as Hobart Earl, Niklas Willen, Nicholas Milton, James Feddeck, Mykola Dyadyura, Wojciech Rajski.

  • Gaspard de la nuit (Maurice Ravel)
