Robert Kyle is musically fluid and adept in a variety of styles including straight-ahead Jazz, Blues, Brazilian, Afro-Cuban, R & B and Classical. He has become known for his unique warm sound, melodic style, and his ability to harmoniously cross many musical borders. His lyrical and passionate playing is evident in whatever musical situation he finds himself. He has a very active studio career playing for TV, film, and jingles, and has been a featured soloist on hundreds of recordings.
As a 15 year member and current musical director of blues diva, Linda Hopkins' band, he has made over 50 trips to Europe and Japan, performing internationally at many of the biggest Jazz festivals, theaters and clubs in the world. He is featured on Miss Hopkins' recordings "Here's the Kid" and "Wild Women Blues." He is also the musical director for salsa star Leslie Paula, and together with Leslie and her 11 piece Latin Soul Band has toured Europe many times, playing concerts throughout Germany & England as well as headlining at the world famous Ronnie Scott's jazz clubs in London. He produced Leslie's CD, "Es Cosa Latina," and is slated to produce her new release later this year. 2007 also saw the release of another CD Robert acted as producer/arranger for, the debut CD for salsa artist Miguel Gutierrez. He has played for the Academy awards, the Emmy awards, The BET awards, The Nick & Jessica Variety Show, Lou Rawls cavalcade of stars, The NAS awards and many others.
In addition to being a very busy and in demand live & session musician, Robert also leads several of his own groups and has released seven CD's on his own Dark Delishious Music label, six of them under his own name, available through his website. His instrumental band is regularly featured and can be heard at clubs and festivals throughout Southern California and they always provide an invigorating musical experience. His Brazilian trio Braziliando plays a mix of classic as well as contemporary Samba, Bossa Nova & Brazilian Jazz, mixing vocal and instrumental music. Their debut CD, "Tempo de Brazil," is the latest release on Robert's label.
