Pete Magadini's Biography

Peter currently resides in the San Francisco Bay Area where he performs regularly, teaches privately, tours, travels and occasionally participates in drum festivals and clinics. Some of the artists Pete has appeared with during his career include George Duke, John Heard, Al Jarreau, Don Ellis, Chet Baker, John Handy, Bobbie Gentry, Diana Ross, Stephan Grappelli, Don Menza, George Coleman, Mose Allison, Sonny Stitt and the Berkshire Music Festival Orchestra at Tanglewood. He holds percussion performance degrees from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and the University of Toronto and includes among his teachers Donald Bothwell, Roy Burns (NYC) Roland Kohloff, John Wyre and North Indian Tabla Master Mahapurush Misra. He is drum instructor for the Dave Brubeck Institute (University of the Pacific) and has formerly taught drums at McGill and Concordia Universities in Montréal, Canada. Peter has several drumset methods published including "Learn to Play the Drumset," "The Complete Drumset Rudiments" and the newly released DVD: JAZZ DRUMS. (Hal Leonard Publishing) In addition, he has had two acclaimed volumes on the comprehension and application of polyrhythms in music published: "Polyrhythms the Musicians Guide" (Hal Leonard Publishing) and "Polyrhythms for the Drumset" (Alfred Publishing)
