Michael Bogart's Biography

"Iron" Mike Bogart grew up in Chicago and in Michigan, where he was first introduced to jazz at the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, and graduated with an artist diploma from the prestigious Interlochen Arts Academy.

Following studies as both a classical performance major and studio music and jazz major at the University of Miami, Florida, Mike auditioned for the United States Navy music program and spent ten years playing in Navy Bands throughout Asia and the Pacific before settling in San Diego.

Following his naval service, Mike began touring as the featured jazz trumpet soloist with the legendary Maynard Ferguson Big Bop Nouveau Big Band, and fulfilled a lifelong dream of his to share the stage with his idol, Maynard Ferguson.

After forging his "Iron" chops with Maynard Ferguson's Big Band for over a year, Mike was offered the lead trumpet chair with the equally legendary Tower Of Power, a position he held for nine years. As a member of Tower Of Power, Mike recorded three studio albums and two live DVDs/albums, including the critically acclaimed 40th Anniversary live at The Fillmore in San Francisco, California.

Artists Mike has worked with, either live or in the studio, include The Brian Setzer Orchestra, Aerosmith, Puff Daddy and Neil Diamond, and Al Green. He can also be heard on movie scores, television and radio jingles, and video game soundtracks such as the Dragon Ball Z video game series.

Mike is active as a clinician and teacher, and makes frequent guest artist appearances at universities, colleges, and high schools around the country.

Mike is capping off his naval career, after returning to active duty service in 2009, and has returned once again to the Midwest and the city of his youth - Chicago.

Mike is exclusively a Yamaha Performing Artist.
