Dean Sams's Biography

As founder, writer, keyboardist and backing vocalist for the multi-platinum selling group, Lonestar, Dean Sams has unquestionably established his position atop the Nashville music scene. But his personality, innate showmanship, stage presence and drive have also made him one of the most likeable and diverse talents in the market today.


As one of the main spokesmen for the band, Sams' presence has lent grace, style, humor and accessibility to an already beloved group of musicians. But his presence transcends music. It is, in fact infectious.


He has appeared, with Lonestar, as the principal guest on a variety of television programs, including Good Morning America, The View, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Regis and Kelly as well as many others. He has been seen on CBS' "Rockin' For The USA": A National Salute to the US Military, Dick Clark's Rockin' New Year's Eve for ABC, the band's own network special, "Loneststar: Concert for the Military" on CMT and has presented and/or performed on several highly visible award shows including The Academy of Country Music Awards, The Country Music Association Awards and the American Music Awards.


Sams released his first album in 1995 with Lonestar. Since then he has been touring with the group playing to sold-out audiences of up to 50,000 fans. He has visited Canada and many other countries throughout Europe as part of these tours and in 2001 was given the Academy of Country Music award for International Artist Achievement. In fact, the band has sold more then 8 million albums, had 9 #1 singles, has garnered 5 Grammy Award nominations, 4 American Music Award nominations, 2 Billboard Music Awards, 4 Academy of Country Music Awards and 2 Country Music Association Awards.


Among many other philanthropic activities, Dean continues to be an active member of the American Red Cross' National Celebrity Cabinet and various efforts to benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
