David Herbert is the Principal Timpanist of the San Francisco Symphony and a graduate of The Juilliard School. Mr. Herbert is an active soloist, appearing as timpani soloist with the San Francisco Symphony on numerous occasions and has performed the premiere of William Kraft Timpani Concerto #2. He has also performed as concerto timpani soloist with the St. Louis Symphony, Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, New World Symphony and The National Repertory Orchestra. He teaches at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and The Boston Conservatory. In the summer, Mr. Herbert performs and teaches at The Pacific Music Festival and the Sun Valley Summer Symphony. Mr. Herbert has collaborated with some of the world's greatest musicians in performance and also performs master classes across the globe as an active teacher and clinician. In 2001, 2003, 2005, and 2006, David Herbert was a featured clinician at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC). Mr. Herbert will be a judge and perform master classes at the upcoming Lyon International Timpani Competition in 2008.
