William Shaltis is Principal Timpanist of the Boise Philharmonic Orchestra , Principal Percussion of the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra and Consortium Instructor of Percussion at the University of Evansville in Indiana. Shaltis has also been Principal Percussion of the Owensboro Symphony Orchestra and has performed with Boston Lyric Opera, Portland (ME) Symphony, Lansing Symphony Orchestra, and with the Boston Baroque and Handel and Haydn period orchestras.
In demand as a performer and educator, Shaltis has served on the percussion faculty of the prestigious Interlochen Arts Camp and has performed Michael Daugherty's timpani concerto, Raise the Roof, throughout the Midwest. He also co-presented a recital/lecture with Boston Baroque Timpanist John Grimes at PASIC 2010 regarding historically-informed timpani practice. Shaltis created Good Beats, a video podcast series designed for secondary school music educators that focuses on percussion performance and maintenance.
Shaltis received a Bachelors in Music Education from Michigan State University and a Masters in Performance from the Boston Conservatory. His teachers include Salvatore Rabbio, John Grimes, Pat Hollenbeck, Nancy Zeltsman, David Herbert, and Alison Shaw.
