Ben Hans

Ben Hans's Biography

Ben Hans is a musician and music educator who keeps a busy performance schedule throughout the Upper Midwest. In addition to leading his own jazz trio, Ben performs as a freelance artist, who cut his teeth performing under the tutelage of Jazz Guitarist Jack Grassel and the late Swing Clarinetist Chuck Hedges. Performing many styles of music, Ben has shared the stage with a diverse list of artists such as legendary rudimentalist John S. Pratt, jazz pianist Barry Harris, singer/songwriter/composer C.F. Kip Winger, jazz saxophonists Eric Morones, Johnny Padilla, and Jesse Lee Montijo, jazz guitarist Scott DuBois, blues prodigy Tallan 'T-Man' Latz, and great regional jazz artists such as Pete Billman, John Babbitt, Berkeley Fudge, Rick Embach, Tom McGirr, Neil Davis, Matt Rodgers, John Price, Michael Arnold, Mark Solveson, Aaron Gardner, Jamie Briewick and many more. Ben also co-leads two groups with guitarist Steve Peplin - the MATC Jazz Ambassadors and the experimental music group Evocation Trio.

As an educator at the Milwaukee Area Technical College in Milwaukee, WI, Ben teaches Major Instrument Drums, Drum Lab, Percussion Ensemble, Music Business, Music Reading, Jazz History, Music Appreciation, and Rock Music History throughout the school year. Ben also instructs more than thirty private music students at The Wisconsin Academy of Music.

Ben is also an author, proofreader, freelance editor and session player for Hal Leonard Publishing, with published works including "Workin' Drums - 50 Solos for Drumset," "40 Intermediate Snare Drum Solos," "Rudimental Solos for the Marching Snare Drummer," "Modern School for Mallet Keyboard Instruments," and the forthcoming 2012 release of the "Hal Leonard School for Snare Drum." Ben also performed and wrote for the Hal Leonard DVD "Traditional Rudimental Drumming" by John S. Pratt.

Ben endorses Yamaha Drums, Mike Balter Mallets, Vic Firth Drumsticks, and Istanbul Agop Cymbals. He is a member of the Percussive Arts Society, ASCAP, and John S. Pratt's 'International Association of Traditional Drummers.'
