Yamaha Premium Pianos Featured at Summer Festivals Across the Country

Summer Festivals

July 2014: The Yamaha DCFX concert grand made its debut at the Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music, when Yamaha Artist Awadagin Pratt, Artistic Director of the Art of the Piano Festival, performed two extraordinary recitals. Joined by visiting artists Ning An and Dennis Thurmond, these events were recorded for DisklavierTV. Festival students, artists and faculty experienced firsthand the sound of the Yamaha CFX piano, and learned more about the capabilities of Yamaha’s  DisklavierTV and RemoteLesson technologies, including an actual RemoteLesson between a student at CCM and distinguished Yamaha Artist Jerome Rose, based in New York City.

This year marked the 16th Anniversary of the International Keyboard Institute and Festival, founded by Yamaha Artist and Distinguished Professor of Piano at Mannes College, Jerome Rose. The Yamaha CFX was the piano of choice for a majority of the 24 concerts presented at the Mannes College, including recitals by Ilya Yakshuev, Magdalena Baczewska, Alexandre Moutouzkine, Alexander Kobrin, Akiko Ebi and others.

Yamaha completed its 26th season as the official piano of the Newport Music Festival. This year, the Festival recognized Yamaha Artist Frederic Chiu for his 20th year as a Newport Festival Artist, his 25th year as a Yamaha Artist, and his 50th birthday. Frederic played to a full house at the Breakers in two separate concerts. Both recitals were captured for later rebroadcast using Yamaha’s exclusive DisklavierTV. technology.

Celebrating its third season as the official piano of the Bravo! Vail Valley Music Festival, the CFX had a summer home on the stage of the Ford Ampitheater, where the piano was heard by capacity audiences. In addition to being a thriving center of solo and chamber music performances, Vail is also a summer home to the Dallas Symphony, the Philadelphia Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic. 2014 highlights include Yamaha Artist Anne-Marie McDermott’s performance with the Philadelphia Orchestra, and a solo recital by Joyce Yang.

pianoSonoma, a two-week festival founded by Yamaha Artists and Juilliard School faculty members Michael and Jessica Shinn, took place at the Green Music Center at Sonoma State University in Northern California, and featured both DCFX and CFX concert grand pianos, used for concerts, masterclasses and DisklavierTV applications. Highlights included two faculty concerts, both of which were captured for DisklavierTV, and a RemoteLesson between a PianoSonoma student and Juilliard School faculty member Choong Mo Khang.

Founded by Yamaha Artist Ching-Yun Hu, the Philadelphia Young Pianists’ Academy (PYPA) is a two-week festival held at the Curtis Institute of Music. The Yamaha CFX was the official piano of the 2014 festival, heard in masterclasses and performances by distinguished Juilliard piano professor Jerome Lowenthal, and pianists Alexandre Moutouzkine, and Xiang Zou. The opening concert by Ms. Hu was recorded for CD release by Sony Classical; the final concert featured Ms. Hu on the CFX with members of the Philadelphia Orchestra.
