Dr. Ka Man “Melody” Ng

Biography

Dr. Ka Man "Melody" Ng is a multi-disciplinary scholar and artist-teacher of piano. She was the first-prize winner in numerous competitions, including UW Beethoven Piano Competition, Irving Shain Woodwind and Piano Duo Competition, Neale-Silva Young Artists Competition, Badger Collegiate Competition, and the national finalist for the MTNA Young Artist Competition. Her appearances included broadcast performances on Wisconsin Public Radio and the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. Her research interests in bringing music and STEM together have recently won grant awards to establish various music programs in hospitals and research for students with special needs. She is the co-founder of the MuSTEM summer camp, which brings music training to empowers STEM studies. Dr. Ng is also the recipient of 2017 Katherine & Richard Lester Emerging Arts Contribution Award for her community work.

As an active performer, her upcoming orchestral engagements include performances of Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue and Mozart's Piano Concerto for Two Pianos in Fall 2018. Her students have won top prizes in Alabama and continued on to receiving full tuition scholarships in graduate piano programs.

Dr. Ng has recently given papers and presented workshops at the College Music Society International Conference in Scandinavia, Piano Pedagogy Symposium, National Group Piano and Piano Pedagogy Forum, European Associations for Music in Schools in Belgium and Germany. Her book chapter, "Listening to Live Music in Healthcare Environment", written for European Perspectives on Music Education 6 is published in Austria. Ng currently serves as the Assistant Professor of Music and directs the Keyboard Studies at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, and the first vice president of Alabama Music Teachers Association. She received her Doctor of Musical Arts degree and Master's Degree in Piano Performance & Pedagogy from University of Wisconsin- Madison, and had a doctoral minor in Business. She received her double-degree in Piano Performance and Economics from Lawrence University, WI.
