artist's profile:
Jason D. Ham is among the youngest of a new generation of euphoniumists appearing on the American military band scene. A 2001 graduate of the University of Georgia with degrees in Music Education and Music Performance, Jason was an active competitor on the euphonium while in Athens. He was the winner of the Atlanta Brass Society Solo Competition, and the Atlanta Community Symphony Orchestra Young Artist Competition, and the Solo Euphonium Artist Competition at the 2001 ITEC (International Tuba-Euphonium Conference) in Lahti, Finland. He also placed in the Tuba Quartet Competition of the ITEC, the MTNA Collegiate Brass Competition, and the Leonard Falcone Euphonium and Tuba Competition. From 1996 to 2001, Jason served on the faculty of the South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities, culminating as the Vice Principal for the Summer Program for three years. He has also served on several brass adjudication panels around the United States, most recently for events sponsored by the New York Staff Band of the Salvation Army. Since entering the United States Military Academy Band in 2002, Staff Sergeant Ham has maintained a busy performance schedule, both in and out of the band. Already in his short time at West Point, Jason has performed and presented solo recitals and master classes at tuba-euphonium conferences, universities, and several music festivals, including the Piccolo Spoleto Festival, USA, in Charleston, South Carolina. Jason has been a student of Ronald Davis, Kenneth Kroesche, David Zerkel, Aaron VanderWeele, and the late David Randolph. He is a Yamaha Performing Artist.
