Sound, Quality & Durability: Yamaha Debuts New Piccolo Marching Snare Drum
New Drum Offers Quick Snare Response; Shell Manufactured Using Unique Air-Seal System
ANAHEIM, Calif.—At Winter NAMM 2010, Yamaha Corporation of America, Band and Orchestral Division, will debut the MSS-9214 Piccolo Marching Snare Drum. The new 14" x 9" SFZ (Sforzando) marching snare drum is a full three inches shorter in depth than the standard Yamaha SFZ Snare drum.

Available in five standard Yamaha finishes, customers will also have 23 additional custom lacquer finish options. With a short nine-inch shell depth for a quick snare response, the drum consists of a light-weight six-ply birch shell for a clear articulate projection. The drum shell is manufactured using the unique Air-Seal System, a unique-to-Yamaha process that ensures the consistency of the round shape. An additional benefit of the new drum is its short size, which allows easier range of movement for competitive indoor marching ensembles.

"Given our strict design guidelines for sound quality and durability, the nine inch shell depth works well not only for highly competitive indoor percussion activity but also for parade bands and smaller marching ensembles," said Troy Wollwage, Marketing Manager, Yamaha Percussion. "Schools using Yamaha products have been requesting a short 'indoor' snare drum to use with their ensembles. We've not been able to give them one until now. We believe it's well worth the wait!"

The new MSS-9214 Piccolo Marching Snare Drum is currently available.
