Yamaha Corporation Headquarters Business Site Switches
Purchased Electricity to 100% Renewable Energy

Yamaha Corporation (Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, hereinafter "Yamaha") announced that it has switched the electricity purchased at its headquarters business site (hereinafter the "business site,") to 100% renewable energy in April this year.

Yamaha began using renewable energy in fiscal 2019 at the business site, and is expected to reduce CO₂ emissions by approximately 4,700 tons per year by switching about 11,000 MWh of all annual electricity use to renewable energy starting this fiscal year. The renewable energy used this time is CO₂-free electricity^*1 generated by Chubu Electric Power Miraiz Co., Inc.

In the medium-term management plan Make Waves 1.0, announced in April 2019, the Yamaha Group has set "contributing to society through our businesses" as one of its key strategies. The Group aims to ensure that its business coexists with the natural environment and contributes to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through its environmental conservation efforts such as sustainable use of timber, development of environmentally-friendly products, and reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. In June 2019, the Group's medium- to long-term greenhouse gas reduction targets were certified by the SBT Initiative^*2, an international environmental organization. To achieve these reduction targets, Yamaha is actively introducing renewable energy sources, installing highly energy-efficient equipment, the development of energy-saving products, and the streamlining of distributions. In January 2021, the Company established the Sustainability Committee, chaired by the president, and the Climate Change Working Group to accelerate company-wide discussions and initiatives on climate change through the committee.

Switching to 100% renewable energy at the business site is part of these efforts and is also in line with the initiatives to achieve carbon neutrality worldwide. Going forward, Yamaha will continue to actively promote solutions to climate change, such as shifting to renewable energy throughout the entire Group, including overseas bases.
