Digital Piano/1986

The first Clavinova to make use of Yamaha-developed proprietary AWM (Advanced Wave Memory) tone generation, which is based on PCM sound sources recorded digitally from actual instrument sounds.
It utilized cross-fade techniques to handle complex, subtle musical instrument sounds, and samples of everything from the initial attack of a sound to the way it fades away naturally. From this huge volume of data, we created waveforms capable of responding to even delicate touches on the keyboard, resulting in a grand piano sound that was extremely faithful to the original.
