Yamaha Design “Synapses” RMX VD Series

2021 / GOLF CLUB

Impressive directional consistency. Golf clubs that defy conventions.

Dual-View

The concept is duality. Featuring an overlay with an image of the moon—an object with a side that is always visible, and a hidden side we never see. They say that something has to give between form and function, between the appearance of the clubhead and the design that makes the ball fly straight. These golf clubs are evidence of our dedication to proving that neither has to be sacrificed.

Honest

The adjustable weight is the same distance from the CG in any position, retaining the MOI and delivering outstanding directional consistency in all—no need to change your swing to hit straight drives.

Reconstruction

Thorough control over thickness has allowed us to craft irons that deliver straight flight. We thinned out the body and distributed as much weight to the toe and heel as possible, in an effort to rid ourselves of preconceptions as we re-examined the essence of irons.

Pride

Clubs with an uncompromised balance between directional consistency and aesthetic beauty. All clubs in the RMX series are imbued with this development concept and technology—the more complete your set, the more you’ll enjoy what it has to offer.

Completely new clubs that set the standard for the future.

Introducing the newest iteration of the RMX Series, known for spearheading the trend toward directional consistency, and the first line of products put out by the Golf R&D Center, Yamaha Golf’s new development headquarters. This bold foray is keyed by a fresh approach—we re-examined our design ideology for golf product development and pivoted toward a straightforward pursuit of optimal directional consistency. Through our efforts, we achieved a new high in the leading metric for directional consistency: MOI. With an MOI of 5,820 g·cm2, these clubs come close to the limit of 5,900 g·cm2 allowed by the rules. These latest additions to the RMX Series are the perfect embodiment of Yamaha’s fearless, open-minded attitude toward product development.
The breakthrough in the design of these clubs was the concept of duality, the basis for our determined pursuit of aesthetically appealing golf clubs while seeking the utmost performance for straight flight. The very shape of a golf club determines how it functions, explaining the common belief that focusing too much on either form or function detracts from the other. In other words, a form designed solely for straight flight must result in an unattractively shaped club. How, then, can a designer deliver both the desired performance and still create clubs that look like they should at address? The concept of duality played a pivotal role in this design that achieves a balance between appearance and performance.
The duality of the new clubs will be apparent to golfers the moment they pick one up. The simple beauty of the curves from the golfer’s point of view stand in stark contrast to the complexity of the rear surface and inner structure, which are unlike any golf clubs to date. When golfers prepare to swing a driver, they subconsciously aim to strike the ball with what they perceive to be the vertical center of the clubhead. We designed the rise of the crown and the position of the score lines so that golfers’ perception of the vertical center matches the place on the clubhead from which the ball actually travels farthest. Thus, we have layered function and feel to create clubs that consistently deliver distance. We used the same concept to create the irons. We shaved the maximum amount of weight and thickness away from the interior in increments of 1 g and 0.1 mm, and distributed as much of the extra weight as possible to the toe and heel, areas indelibly connected to directional consistency. Our efforts resulted in a breakthrough: an MOI of 4,000 g·cm2, a level never before reached for irons.
Functionality that fulfills the demands of the times, an aggressive design, and a finish that exudes dignified style. Clubs that look impressive, but perform even more impressively. Products that make golfers look cool when they are playing. These were the aims of our development efforts. Our vision has resulted in golf clubs worthy of commemoration as the first line of products originating from the combined knowledge of everyone at the Yamaha Golf team’s new development headquarters.
