Blu-ray Disc
Blu-ray, also known as Blu-ray Disc (BD) is the name of a next-generation optical disc format. The format was developed to enable recording, rewriting and playback of high-definition video (HD), as well as storing large amounts of data. The format offers more than five times the storage capacity of traditional DVDs and can hold up to 25GB on a single-layer disc and 50GB on a dual-layer disc. This extra capacity combined with the use of advanced video and audio codecs will offer consumers an unprecedented HD experience.
Bonus View
BONUSVIEW functions include
• At least Profile 1.0 Version 1.1 compatibility
• Secondary Video/Audio for enhanced commentary or information
• Virtual Package for new entertainment possibilities with players that offer an SD Card slot
DTS-HD Advanced Digital Out
You can enjoy DTS-HD Master audio by upgrading to a Blu-ray Disc player with DTS-HD Advanced Digital Out and new AV Receiver with DTS-HD Master Audio decoding. Both player and AV receiver will need to be equipped with new HDMI Version 1.3 outputs and inputs. Connect the player and receiver with an HDMI cable. The DTS-HD bit stream will pass through the player and HDMI cable to be decoded by the AV receiver. This way you can enjoy DTS-HD Master Audio at up to 7.1 channels at 96 kHz/24 bit sound that is bit-for-bit identical to the studio master.
JAVA
The Java Powered logo means the device or application you have has passed our rigorous tests and it is safe to use. So, when you see the Java Powered logo, you can expect a fun, engaging, interactive experience that Java technology delivers!
SDHC Compatible SD Card slot
The SD Card Association (SDA) has established SD Specification Version 2.0 for the SDHC (SD High Capacity) Memory Card. SDHC is the new SD memory card with a capacity above 2GB.

HDMI
HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is the first and only industry-supported, uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface. With the ability to deliver crystal-clear, all-digital audio and video via a single cable, HDMI dramatically simplifies cabling and helps provide consumers with the highest-quality home theater experience. HDMI can provide an interface between any audio/video source, such as a set-top box, DVD player, or A/V receiver and an audio and/or video monitor, such as a digital television (DTV), over a single cable.

Depending on the model of product, HDMI can support standard, enhanced, or high-definition video, plus multi-channel digital audio on a single cable . It can transmit all ATSC HDTV standards and supports 8-channel, 192kHz, uncompressed digital audio and all currently-available compressed formats (such as Dolby Digital and DTS), newer HDMI devices can support HDMI 1.3 technology which adds additional support for new lossless digital audio formats Dolby® TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio™.

DVD Video
DVD is essentially a large capacity optical video storage media that contains movies or other video content for home entertainment. DVD has become the standard for video publishing by most movie and video studios.
Dolby Digital
The most popular 5.1-channel home theater sound system. An improvement over Dolby Pro-Logic in that it offers: 1) Full frequency response in all channels (3Hz — 20kHz), 2) discrete surround channels, and 3) a separate track for bass only, called the Low Frequency Effects channel.
MP3
Short for MPEG-1 layer 3 audio, MP3 is a compression process used to shrink audio files by filtering out all noise that is not detectable to the human ear. MP3 is considered near CD-quality, but the file itself occupies approximately one tenth to one twelfth the space of the original CD format, making it the perfect medium for today’s smaller, memory based portable media players.
AVCHD
The "AVCHD" is an HD digital video camera recorder format recording 1080i*1 and 720p*2 signals onto certain media by using highly efficient codec technologies. The "AVCHD" is jointly established by Panasonic, the brand name for which Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. is known and Sony Corporation.

MAGNIFICENT AUDIO PERFORMANCE
Make the Most of Blu-ray Discs
Blu-ray Discs are one of the best ways to take advantage of the great entertainment that high-definition video and audio makes possible. Since a single-layer disc holds 25GB of data, a Blu-ray Disc stores five times more data than a standard DVD, providing superb picture resolution and surround sound.

The BD-S2900 offers compatibility with the latest Blu-ray Disc format and the finest audio and video quality, as well as the latest features like Picture-in-Picture (Secondary Video/Audio) and Virtual Package.

Secondary Video (Picture-in-Picture)/Audio
Secondary Video lets you view a smaller picture inside the main picture (with compatible Blu-ray Discs). Secondary Audio lets you hear the smaller picture’s audio as well. Both can be selected from the BD-S2900 remote control.

Virtual Package
This feature lets you combine information from a Blu-ray Disc with local storage information on an SD card to enjoy additional content and services as they become available.
HD Audio Bitstream
The digital audio signals from high bit-rate audio signals (Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus, DTS-HD Master Audio and DTS-HD High Resolution Audio) are output directly from the player to the receiver (via an HDMI cable), without conversion to PCM. By using a receiver with HD audio decoders, the sound you hear will be exactly the same as the originally recorded material.
ADVANCED FEATURES
Design Matches Yamaha Receivers
The front panel appearance matches Yamaha’s top-class receivers, so your system will have a neat, uniform look.

RS-232C Interface
By using this interface you can control your player with a touch-screen panel or use a computer for custom configurations.

IR In/Out
These ports make the BD-S2900 easy to integrate into a custom installation for convenient remote control operation.
High Picture Quality

12-Bit Deep Color
HDMI also supports a technology called Deep Color, which increases the number of bits available for transmission, meaning more colors! In fact, with 12-bit compatibility, the BD-S2900 can provide 4,096 shades of each of the three primary colors. That means 4,0963 for a total of 68.7 billion possible colors, which in practical terms results in much great color fidelity, smooth tonal transitions and ultra-fine gradations between colors. It also enables many times more shades of gray, for higher contrast ratio.
1080p/24fps-Compatible HDMI Output
1080p is the highest level of video resolution, and the BD-S2900 can output these video signals directly to a receiver via the HDMI output. Generally, these signals are sent at 60 frames per second (FPS) but the BD-S2900 can also transmit 24fps signals, which is the same frame rate that movies are shot at. This provides a much sharper picture, with smoother motion.
