  1. Q: What is the MusicCAST2 system?
    A: The MusicCAST2 system is a wireless multi-room system that streams music and audio content to any room using proven Wi-Fi technology you probably already have in your home. The completely new Yamaha MusicCAST2 system provides you with the simplest way to enjoy all your music, all your sources, in all your rooms, wirelessly!
  2. Q: What types of music content can I listen to using the MusicCAST2 system?
    A: The MusicCAST2 system can listen to many types of non-DRM music through your home network, including the following: Music shared from a Windows computer using Windows Media Player 11, music shared from a Mac computer using TwonkyMedia software, USB thumb drives connected to a Network Music Player, an iPod connected to a Network Music Player using an optional Yamaha iPod dock. And, since the MusicCAST2 is DLNA certified, you can listen to shared music from almost any DLNA certified music server (for example, a DLNA certified Network Area Storage drive). In addition to content from your local network, you can listen to Internet content such as Internet Radio and the Rhapsody music service.
  3. Q: What is Internet Radio?
    A: The MusicCAST2 system uses the vTuner Internet Radio station database service specifically customized for this unit, providing access to thousands of Internet radio stations without the need for a monthly subscription. You can store your favorite stations with bookmarks for easy access.
  4. Q: What is Rhapsody?
    A: Rhapsody is a digital music service that lets you listen to whatever you want — without paying per track. And Rhapsody membership plans start at less than the cost of a CD a month, so you can listen to as much music as you want without limits.
  5. Q: What is TwonkyMedia Server?
    A: TwonkyMedia server software is a DLNA music server that enables you to share your music across your home network. A serial number for TwonkyMedia server software is included with the MCX-RC100 Commander and can be used on up to three computers (PC or Mac).
  6. Q: Can I play my music from a Network HDD using the MusicCAST2 SYSTEM?
    A: Yes, music content stored on a Network Area Storage (NAS) hard drive can be played back from the MusicCAST2 system, just make sure the NAS drive is DLNA certified.
  7. Q: What type of music formats can I playback?
    A: The MusicCAST2 system can decode the following music formats from your home network: MP3, WMA (excluding WMA lossless and Pro), MPEG4-AAC (not including Apple Lossless and Apple FairPlay DRM), FLAC and WAV.
  8. Q: Can I playback copyright-protected music contents on the MusicCAST2 system?
    A: You can playback Windows Media Digital Rights Management (WMDRM) protected content on the MusicCAST2 system if you use Windows Media Player 11 as a DLNA server. When using the TwonkyMedia server, you cannot playback the copyright-protected contents on the MusicCAST2 system. As for music files purchased from the iTunes Music Store, you can playback unprotected contents only.
  9. Q: Can I playback music content stored on an iPod connected to a Network Music Player (MCX-A300 or MCX-P200) via the optional YDS-11 iPod dock to another location in my home network?
    A: You can playback iPod music only on the Music Player which the iPod is directly connected. However, you cannot playback music content from an iPod connected to a Network Music Player to other locations in your home network.
  10. Q: Can I playback music content stored in a USB memory device connected to a Network Music Player (MCX-A300 or MCX-P200) to another location in my home network?
    A: You can playback USB music content only on the Music Player which the USB memory device is directly connected. However, you cannot playback USB music content from a Network Music Player to other locations in your home network.
  11. Q: How does the Network Music Commander (MCX-RC100) and Network Music Players (MCX-A300 and MCX-P200) connect to my home network?
    A: The Network Music Commander uses wireless technology (802.11b/g) while the Network Music Players can either connect wirelessly (802.11b/g) or hardwired (via standard CAT 5 network cable) to your home network.
  12. Q: How can I switch between the wired and wireless connections of a Network Music Player?
    A: When a Music Player is connected to the network using a network cable, the wired connection always takes priority. When the network cable is disconnected, a wireless connection between the Music Player and your access point (WiFi router) will be automatically established if the WiFi settings of the Music Player have been configured. In case the wireless connection cannot be automatically established, turn off and on the Music Player.
  13. Q: Can I playback video contents or pictures stored in my iPod using the MusicCAST2 system?
    A: The MusicCAST2 system will only support music content playback.
  14. Q: Does the MusicCAST2 system support Yamaha Network A/V receivers?
    A: Yes, the MusicCAST2 system does support select Yamaha Network A/V receivers.

  15. Q: Can the MusicCAST2 system control my current receiver?
    A: Yes, the MusicCAST2 system does support controlling your current receiver (and it doesn’t even have to be a Yamaha brand receiver) using the MCX-P200 Network Music Player along with the included IR flashers.

  16. Q: How do I update firmware on my MusicCAST2 system?
    A: Yamaha will occasionally release firmware updates to enhance the features and functionality of the MusicCAST2 system. Updating the MusicCAST2 firmware is a two step process: First you need to update the firmware of any MCX-RC100 Commanders that you have. Second, update the firmware on each of your MCX-A300 or MCX-P200 Music Players.

    The easiest method to update the firmware is via your home network. Click the MusicCAST2 Online Interactive Owner’s Manual for step by step instructions.

    If you are unable to update the firmware via the network, you can also choose to update via the USB connection. Click the MusicCAST2 Online Interactive Owner’s Manual

MCX-RC100 Network Music Commander FAQs:

  1. Q: What is the MCX-RC100 Network Music Commander?
    A: At the heart of the MusiCAST2 system is the Network Music Commander. Its full-color display and touch-pad controller make it simple to select a room and control the music playing throughout your entire home. The Yamaha MusicCAST2 system provides the simplest method to enjoy all your music, all your sources, in all your rooms, wirelessly! Just connect MusicCAST2 to your wireless home network and you will be able to enjoy music in any room of your home, at any time.
  2. Q: How do I connect the MCX-RC100 Network Music Commander to my home network?
    A: The Network Music Commander (Commander) connects wirelessly to your home network through your wireless router or wireless access point. For step by step instructions on connecting the Commander to your network, click the MusicCAST2 Online Interactive Owner’s Manual
  3. Q: How can I stop music content playback?
    A: Simply press and hold the Pause button on the Music commander for two seconds or more. You can also use the Stop button in the “Zone” screen when the Music Player is selected as a target zone. In addition, you can stop playback on all Music Players and turn off all zones of the network receivers at once by using the “All Stop” function.
  4. Q: Which Yamaha network A/V receivers does the MusicCAST2 system support?
    A: In order to use your Yamaha network A/V receiver with the MusicCAST2 system, please make sure you have the following firmware version or later.

  5. Q: How many zones can I control from the Music Commander?
    A: You can control up to 32 zones from the Music Commander. For a network receiver, each zone is counted individually (e.g. 3 zones for RX-V3900).
  6. Q: If I have music on multiple computers in my house, what is the easiest way to playback my music?
    A: While the MusicCAST2 Commander can easily browse the music contents of multiple computers, you can also use commercially available software programs that allow you to have your music files and folders automatically synchronize to a single location, for example, to a Network Area Storage (NAS) drive. Once your music is all located in a single location, you can browse all of your music files at once without the need to search on individual computers.

MCX-A300 Amplified Network Music Player FAQs:

    A: The MCX-A300 is an Amplified Network Music Player that works with the MCX-RC100 Network Music Commander. The easiest way to add additional rooms of music in your home is by adding the MCX-A300 Amplified Network Music Player.

    A: The MCX-A300 makes for an ideal addition to any room that may not have an existing audio system. Since the MCX-A300 has a built-in amplifier, just connect two speakers and you're ready for an endless variety of music enjoyment.

MCX-P200 Pre-amp Network Music Player FAQs:

  1. Q: What is the MCX-P200 Network Music Player?
    A: The MCX-P200 is a Pre-amplified Network Music Player that works with the MCX-RC100 Network Music Commander. Since it is pre-amp, you can add this network music player to an existing audio system.
  2. Q: What situations can I use the MCX-P200 Network Music Player?
    A: You can use the MCX-P200 non-amplified music player to upgrade an existing audio system to play network content. So, it’s perfect for rooms where you already have a stereo receiver or a home theater receiver.
  3. Q: How can I connect the MCX-P200 to my home network?

  4. Q: How can I control my current A/V receiver using the MCX-P200?
    A: You can control your current A/V receiver by adding an MCX-P200 Network Music Player to your MusicCAST2 installation. Using the MCX-P200 along with the included IR flashers, you can control almost any A/V receiver since the MCX-P200 has built-in IR commands to control lots of receivers, and can even learn IR commands.
  5. Q: How many learning remote control codes can the MCX-P200 store?
    A: The MCX-P200 can store about 70 individual learned remote codes, which is plenty of commands to control your receiver as well as other attached sources like a CD player.
  6. Q: Can I playback music content stored in a USB memory device connected to an MCX-P200 Network Music Player to another location in my home network?
    A: You can playback USB music content only on the Music Player which the USB memory device is directly connected. However, you cannot playback USB music content from a Network Music Player to other locations in your home network.
