YASI Celebrates Institutional Partnerships at Two September Events

DCFX Celebration at Columbus State University
On September 10th, the Schwob School of Music at Columbus State University held an inaugural concert for its recently purchased DCFX piano. Yamaha Artist and Schwob’s Rex Whiddon Distinguished Chair of Piano Alexander Kobrin introduced the school to Yamaha’s revolutionary technology, and the evening was a celebration of the Disklavier in all its guises, featuring a RemoteLesson between Schwob and YASI’s New York piano salon.  In addition, Mr. Kobrin performed selections Rachmaninoff’s Etudes Tableaux, Op. 39. The event was attended by Schwob’s director Dr. Scott Harris, Columbus State University President Dr. Timothy Mescon, and donor Gail B. Greenblatt, along with representatives from Buena Park and New York.

President Walter Harrison welcomed alumni to a reception at the YASI Piano Salon on September 29th. The evening featured performances on the Yamaha CFX by current Hartt School of Music students, and remarks by President Harrison and Director of Yamaha Artist Services (and Hartt alumna) Bonnie Barrett. Also amongst the over one hundred attendees were Hartt School of Music Interim Dean T. Clark Saunders, Dean (on sabbatical) Aaron Flagg, and Yamaha Corporation of America Senior Vice President Tom Sumner.
