Proper Microphone Cable Wiring

This information applies to the following models: PSR2000, PSR2100, PSR3000, PSR8000, PSR9000, and Tyros.

If extraneous noise or low volume level is being experienced from the 'MIC' input, it is most likely due to the wiring in the microphone cable. When using a high impedance microphone with an integrated (permanently attached) 2-conductor 1/4" male plug, there should typically be no problem. But if a low or high impedance microphone is being used with a detachable cable that has an XLR connector on one end and a 1/4" 2-conductor male plug on the other, make sure that pins 1 and 3 of the XLR connector are shorted to ground.

If a low or high impedance microphone is being used with a detachable cable that has an XLR connector on one end and a 1/4" 3-conductor male plug on the other, make sure that the 'ring' and 'sleeve' sections of the 1/4" plug are shorted to ground (or make sure that pins 1 and 3 of the XLR connector are shorted to ground).
