Connecting an S90 with a Computer

There are two types of connection options available when connecting an S90 to a computer (using a software sequencer).
  1. MIDI connections require an interface when used with a computer.
  2. A USB connection interfaces directly with a computer, but requires a special 'driver' for PC, and 'OMS' or 'Core MIDI' (for OS X) software setup for Macintosh.
Using MIDI connections:
  1. Connect a MIDI cable from the S90 'MIDI OUT' to the computer interface 'MIDI IN'.
  2. Connect another MIDI cable from the computer interface 'MIDI OUT' to the S90 'MIDI IN'.
  3. Set 'MIDI IN/OUT' in the S90 UTILITY section to 'MIDI':
    1. a) Press the [UTILITY] button.
    2. Press the [F5] 'MIDI' button.
    3. Press the [SF4] 'OTHER' button.
    4. Dial 'MIDI IN/OUT MIDI' in the screen.
Using the 'USB' connection with a PC:
  1. Connect a USB cable from the S90 'USB' connection to a USB port of a PC.
  2. Set 'MIDI IN/OUT' in the S90 UTILITY section to 'USB':
    1. a) Press the [UTILITY] button.
    2. Press the [F5] 'MIDI' button.
    3. Press the [SF4] 'OTHER' button.
    4. Dial 'MIDI IN/OUT USB' in the screen.
  3. Install the latest Yamaha USB Driver for the Windows Operating System being used into the PC.
  4. Configure the sequencer software to utilize the Yamaha USB Driver.
Using the 'USB' connection with a Macintosh:
  1. Connect a USB cable from the S90 'USB' connection to a USB port of a Macintosh.
  2. Set 'MIDI IN/OUT' in the S90 UTILITY section to 'USB':
    1. Press the [UTILITY] button.
    2. Press the [F5] 'MIDI' button.
    3. Press the [SF4] 'OTHER' button.
    4. Dial 'MIDI IN/OUT USB' in the screen.
  3. See the 'Tools for S90' Installation Guide for instructions on installing and setting up 'OMS' software, or if using OS X, configure Core MIDI to use the S90.
