Enabling an External MIDI Device to Control Keyboard Voices, Parts, Auto Accompaniment and VH

This information applies to the following models: PSR1100 and PSR2100.

The PSR1100 and PSR2100 can be configured so that an external MIDI device (MIDI Bass Pedals, MIDI Accordion, Controller Keyboard, MIDI Sequencer or onther controlling hardware or software) can control its Voices, Parts, Auto Accompaniment and Vocal Harmony in the same way as the keyboard/control panel.

1) Press the [FUNCTION] button.

2) Press the [H] LCD button to select 'MIDI'.

3) Press the [BACK] button to select the 'PRESET' page.

4) Press the [A] LCD button to select 'All Parts'.

5) Press the [NEXT] button.

6) Press the '8' [^] LCD button to select 'EDIT'.

7) Press the [BACK] or [NEXT] button to select the 'RECEIVE' page.

8) Press the [A] or [B] LCD button to select the desired MIDI channel. The selected MIDI channel should be the same as the transmit channel of the external MIDI device.

9) Press the '2' or '3' [^] or [v] LCD buttons to select one of the following options:

a) OFF- Disables MIDI reception on the selected channel.

b) SONG- Controls the Voice assigned to a Song Track. Channels 1-16 control the voice assigned to Song Tracks 1-16 respectively.

c) MAIN- Controls the 'MAIN' Voice part.

d) LAYER- Controls the 'LAYER' Voice part.

e) LEFT- Controls the 'LEFT' Voice part.

f) KEYBOARD- Controls all functions/parts assigned to the internal keyboard which can include MAIN, LAYER, LEFT, Auto Accompaniment and Vocal Harmony.

g) EXTRA PART- Controls internal sound banks independent of the keyboard, Song or Auto Accompaniment settings.

NOTE: These are the most popular options. More options are listed in the PSR2100/1100 Owner's Manual on p.150.
10) To control ONLY the Auto Accompaniment section (independent of the keyboard), do the following:

a) Press the [BACK] or [NEXT] button to select the 'CHORD DETECT' page.

b) Use the [A], [B] and '1' - '8' [^] and [v] LCD buttons to select 'ON' for the desired MIDI channel. The selected MIDI channel should be the same as the transmit channel of the external MIDI device.

12) Press the [EXIT] button.


Saving the MIDI Setting:

1) Press the [NEXT] button to select the 'USER' page in the 'MIDI' screen.

2) Press one of the [A] - [J] LCD buttons to select a memory location.

3) Press the '6' [v] to select 'SAVE'.

4) Use the '1' - '8' [^] and [v] LCD buttons to name the MIDI setting.

5) Press the '8' [^] to select 'OK'.

6) Press the [EXIT] button twice to return the 'MAIN' screen.
