Selecting S08/S90 Voices from Yamaha 'SQ01' MIDI Sequencing Application

A Voice List for the S08/S90 can be loaded into the SQ01 MIDI sequencing application for convenient selection of Voices directly from the software. The Voice selections can be stored with the Song, using the SQ01 MIDI Mixer Template.
Preliminary SQ01 Settings:
  1. Select the 'View' menu from the menu bar.
  2. Select 'MIDI Mixer' from the menu drop-down list.
  3. Select the 'Setup' menu from the menu bar.
  4. Select 'Setting...' from the menu drop-down list.
  5. De-select (un-check) the boxes next to 'Receive XG System On', Receive GM System On', and 'Insert Offset'.
  6. Click the [OK] button.
  7. Install the S08/S90 Voice List into the SQ01 application from the CD ROM. Click here for 'Installing the S08/S90 Voice List into the SQ01 MIDI Sequencing Application'.
Setting up a MIDI Mixer Template:
Before recording any Tracks, set up a MIDI Mixer Template for the Song and select a Voice to be used for each Track:
  1. In the MIDI Mixer screen, double-click the red numbers at the bottom of a desired Mixer Channel column. The 'Packed Voice' screen appears.
NOTE: The SQ01 Mixer Channels correspond to the MIDI Channels for the instrument being used. The SQ01 Tracks default to Tracks 1-8 being 'Audio' Tracks, and Tracks 9-24 being 'MIDI' Tracks. So, for example, to record notes for a Voice chosen on MIDI Channel 1, Track 9 of the SQ01 would be used. Track 10 would be used for MIDI Channel 2, etc.
  2. Click the [Device] button.
  3. Select the device being used (S08 or S90).
  4. Click the [List] button.
  5. Select a desired Voice.
  6. Click the [OK] button.
  7. Click the [OK] button again.
  8. Repeat steps 4 - 7 for subsequent Channels.
  9. Select the 'Edit' menu from the menu bar.
  10. Select 'Insert Parameters' from the menu drop-down list.
  11. Click the [OK] button.
Recording with the Selected Voice:
  1. Return to the main SQ01 Track View screen.
  2. Click on a Track number to be recorded. It turns green.
EXAMPLE: Track '9' for MIDI Channel 1.
  3. Click on the box in the 'Port' column of the Track, and select the MIDI Port being used.
  4. Click the [R] button in the Track. It turns red.
  5. Click the Record button (red dot) at the top of the screen.
  6. Click the Play button (green arrow) to begin recording.
  7. Click the Stop button (black box) to stop recording.
  8. Repeat steps 2 - 7 for subsequent Tracks.
Saving the Song:
  1. Select the 'File' menu from the menu bar.
  2. Select 'Save' from the menu drop-down list.
  3. Browse to a desired folder where the Song is to be saved.
  4. Name the Song in the 'File name:' window, leaving the '.yws' extension at the end.
