Setting up the AW16G as a controller for Cubase SX

The AW16G can be used is a controller for various software programs. When used as a controller for Cubase SX the AW16G controls faders and mutes within Cubase in 4 banks of 16 channels each. The following is the procedure for setting up the AW16G as a controller for Cubase SX:
General Setup
  1. Connect the MIDI In and Out of the AW16G to the MIDI port on the soundcard or computer MIDI interface.
    NOTE: Typically the cable of the MIDI interface is marked such that the cable marked MIDI Out will be plugged into the MIDI In of the AW16G and the cable marked MIDI In will be plugged into the MIDI Out of the AW16G.

AW16G Setup
  1. Press the [REMOTE] button to access the Remote Preset screen.
  2. Using the [JOG/DATA] wheel, select Cubase SX as the target.
Cubase SX Setup
  1. Open a Cubase session.
  2. Click on Devices and then select 'Device Setup' from the drop-down menu.
  3. Click on the 'Add/Remove' tab to view the available devices.
  4. Click on 'Generic Remote' to select it and then click on 'ADD' at the bottom of the window.
  5. Click on the 'Setup' tab and select the 'Generic Remote'.
  6. Click on 'Import' and select the 'Yamaha AW16G Remote XML' file. This file is located on the AW16G Tools disc.
  7. In the MIDI Input and Output section, select the device that is being used to transmit MIDI info to the AW16G.
  8. Click on 'Apply'.
