Hard disk space required for a DS2416
The amount of hard disk space required to use the DS2416 depends directly on four factors:
-
The number of recording tracks used
The recording ''resolution'' used (16 bits, 24 bits, or 32 bits)
The sampling frequency used (from 30KHz to 50KHz, but typically 44.1KHz or 48KHz)
The recording time
Increasing any of the above quantities will increase the amount of hard disk space required.
The chart below lists the hard disk requirements for 16-bit recording at 44.1KHz sampling frequency:
The chart below lists the hard disk requirements for 16-bit recording at 44.1KHz sampling frequency:
| 2 tracks | 4 tracks | 8 tracks | 12 tracks | 16 tracks | |
| 15 minutes | 79.4 MB | 158.8 MB | 317.6 MB | 476.3 MB | 635.1 MB |
| 30 minutes | 158.8 MB | 317.6 MB | 635.1 MB | 952.6 MB | 1,270.1 MB |
| 1 hour | 317.6 MB | 635.1 MB | 1,270.1 MB | 1,905.2 MB | 2,540.2 MB |
| 2 hours | 635.1 MB | 1,270.1 MB | 2,540.2 MB | 3,810.3 MB | 5,080.4 MB |
NOTE 1: For 24-bit recording multiply the hard disk capacities by (1.5). For 32-bit recording multiply the hard disk capacities by (2).
NOTE 2: For recordings at the 48KHz sampling frequency multiply the above hard disk capacities by (1.09).
NOTE 2: For recordings at the 48KHz sampling frequency multiply the above hard disk capacities by (1.09).
TIP: To avoid running out of disk space during a project, use the chart above as a guide to estimate the hard disk capacity needed before beginning the recording session.
